Overview

Career Pathways is a National program to help students become more familiar with requirements in a variety of technical occupations. In Utah, there are Pathways within 8 Areas of Study.
Career Pathways is a program offered through your schools Career & Technical Education (CTE) department. The Career Pathways program helps students to choose courses that will better prepare them for college and/or technical certification, relevant to a career or program of study, so that students can develop the essential skills to enter today’s competitive job market with confidence.
Exploratory courses begin as early as 7th grade, and subsequent courses teach students specific job readiness and job skills, which can lead to employment and/or post-secondary education. Each pathway outlines a student’s requirements for graduation starting as early as 7th grade. In addition, a career pathways is also listed that will give students and parents a list of suggested courses that should be taken in certain program areas (i.e. accounting, auto mechanic, information technology).
Career Pathways and Career and Technical Education (CTE) are essential components of the total educational system in Utah and are critical to the country’s ability to compete in a global economy. Career Pathways and CTE guides students in a variety of settings and levels, including middle school/junior high career exploration, secondary programs, and post-secondary certificates and degrees.
